New Releases
At Close Range by Jessica Andersen, Bear Claw Creek Crime Lab, Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN 0373229119

A killer was loose in Colorado, and evidence specialist Cassie Dumont was determined to prove her expertise to the skeptical local cops.  So the arrival of FBI agent Seth Varitek, a man she'd clashed with before, didn't sit well with her competence, her ego...or her libido.

The last time they'd crossed paths, Seth saw just how close Cassie got to a violent criminal.  His refusal to confront that fear again convinced him to keep the feisty criminologist at arm's length.  Before long, working together became an exercise in torture--especially once the murderer they were tracking made Cassie his next target...

Jason knew he should be trying to keep Lilly Nelson at arm's length. After all, she had the power to break up his happy home. But someone wanted Lilly dead, and everything about her--her strong spirit and fragile beauty--aroused Jason's most protective instincts. But what was he willing to risk to keep Lilly safe?

Matt knew his father died an innocent man, and he suspected Lindsey held the key to why.  But spending time with the stubborn beauty made Matt wish their shared past wasn't clouded by tragedy.  Would the truths they were slowly uncovering make a shared future just as unlikely?

But now, as the danger escalated around them, the hunt for a sinister criminal threatened to resurrect long-buried secrets of the past that could threaten Todd and Serena's future forever...

Question of the Month
Here is the question for the authors for April:

Sometimes authors get the perfect cover. Other times it's hard to understand what
the art department was thinking. Which of your Intrigue covers is your favorite and why?

B.J. Daniels:

My first cover, Odd Man Out, was great fun because it was my first. Kind of like your first love. Who can forget that one? :) But a cover that really is "me" is the one on my May Intrigue--Secret Weapon Spouse. The book kicks off the Miami Confidential series that involves wedding planners who are secret agents. When I saw the cover, I had to laugh. I once started a contest at the newspaper where I worked. Write a kiss scene. The reporters thought it would be fun so they took the challenge. We got some very wild stuff. Needless to say, my kiss scene  was the only one that involved a gun though. Which is why I had to laugh when I saw the cover for Secret Weapon Spouse. My kind of cover!

Mallory Kane:

Hmmm. I've had eight covers so far and I'm waiting right now to see the cover for Covert Makeover, (July 06) the third book in Intrigue's Miami Confidential series that begins in May  06. The first two books' covers are fantastic (see BJ Daniel's answer above and Kelsey Roberts' answer below). I've loved all my covers, but my favorite to date? It's a tie between my first book, The Lawman Who Loved Her and Bodyguard/Husband. What's so special about these two? Lawman is special because it was my first, and the hero, heroine and the situation were perfect! Just as I'd described them.  Bodyguard/Husband's cover is a no-brainer. Shirtless hunk peering out a shadowed window, beautiful woman in a sexy nightie watching him from her bed--what's not to love!

Sylvie Kurtz:

I liked the cover for RememberingRed Thunder because it was so different.  All that water and that bit of blurr reflected the hero's mind so well.  Plus the hero looked exactly as I'd pictured him--always a bonus.  The covers for the last two Seekers books were nice, too.

Elle James:

Since I only have one Intrigue out at this time, I'd have to say Beneath The Texas Moon is my favorite Intrigue cover. Ask me again at the end of the year and I'll have three to choose from! I like my cover for Beneath The Texas Moon because it's foggy and dark, like the book. This particular book is a gothic, woman-in-jeopardy with an inhuman villain.

Julie Miller:

I must have a thing for biceps.<g> I've been fortunate to have several Intrigue covers I've loved over the years. But to pick a favorite, it's a toss-up between Kansas City's Bravest and Police Business. Both books feature a hunky hero alone on the cover--and what I love best about them is the strength, skill, and dedication both covers convey. Kansas City's Bravest's hero is a firefighter-- Police Business's is a cop. Sure, the tight T-shirts and well-muscled bodies can't hurt, but it's the essence of the hero that I love--like they've just saved the day, or they're ready to protect and defend what they love at a moment's notice.

Kelsey Roberts:

Automatic Proposal is my favorite to date.  I practically danced when I got the .jpeg from Canada mainly because it's so different.  The book won't be out until June, 2006, but it's definitely unlike anything I've had so far.  That said, it probably ties Unspoken Confessions, only because I have the original artist's pencil sketch of that cover, so it has some serious sentimental value going for it.

Dani Sinclair:

I've really enjoyed a number of the books I've written over the years and each for a different reason, but I have to say my June 05 Intrigue, DB Hayes, Detective stands out because it was so much fun to write. I loved watching Dee try to cope with her family, the cats, her first big assignment and of course, Brandon. I'd really like to do a sequel one of these days just to see what happened to them. That parrot just begs for a role to play with all those cats! Happy Reading!
