New Releases
Secret of Dead Man's Coulee by B.J. Daniels, Whitehorse, Montana, Harlequin Intrigue,  ISBN 9780373692637

It would just figure!  Eve Bailey would have the rotten luck to drop in on a body and a thirty-year-old mystery.  And darn it all, Carter Jackson would be the sheriff determined to take on the cold case--and Eve.  In high school he had been one tall drink of water, and nothing had changed--not his smoldering eyes, his cowboy swagger or the way Eve felt about him.  The Whitehorse sewing circle would surely be putting in overtime "quilting" sessions down at the community center, speculating whether Eve and Carter would have a second chance.

But gossip was the least of Eve's problems.  One of their own was desperate to keep local secrets buried deep in the Montana mountains.  There would be an old-fashioned showdown when the truth was revealed.... And anyone could get caught in the crossfire.

Forbidden Temptation by Paula Graves, Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN 037369265X

Hot-shot criminal profiler Daniel Hartman was looking for a man called Orion.  Leading a manhunt through Birmingham for the killer, Daniel was trying to put old ghosts to rest.  But this time Orion's target was Rose Browning, a matchmaking wedding planner with a gift for predicting true love.  Tempted by secrets she couldn't reveal, Daniel insisted on offering some very personal protection. He would get her to open up, but at a price.  Would he be able to safeguard this raven-haired beauty before his desires for revenge became an obsession?  This is a sequel to her debut book, Forbidden Territory.

Showdown with the Sheriff by Jan Hambright, Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN 9780373692644

Sheriff Logan Brewer was just a deputy when Rory Matson was abducted and left for dead on Reaper's Point.  Before they could say goodbye, she'd run off and hadn't looked back...until the mystery surrounding her father's death brought her home.  And reawakened a madman out to finish what he'd started.

Pushing aside the guilt he still harbored for not saving Rory once before, Logan had to capture this elusive killer if he was to lay old demons to rest.  After all, the beauty may have survived, but her body and spirit were permanently scarred.  This time, he'd right past wrongs and protect her at all costs.

Failure was not an option.

High Society Sabotage by Kathleen Long, Bodyguards Unlimited, Denver, CO, Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN 9780373692606

Sara Montgomery thought her days as a debutante were over.  But when top-level businessmen connected to an oil conspiracy began disappearing, her undercover work returned her to the spotlight--and forced her into the arms of Kyle Prescott.  Could this millionaire playboy be the mastermind behind the investment scheme?

Just when she thought she had Kyle pegged, he stepped in front of a bullet meant for Sara...then insisted on playing protector.  And although relying on the charming bad boy 24/7 was good for the mission, spending long nights together was never part of the plan.  But what about falling for the very man she'd been assigned to investigate?

Colby vs. Colby by Debra Webb, The Equalizers, Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN 978037392620

With their reputations and Sunday dinner in jeopardy, Victoria Colby-Camp and her son Jim were not about to give in when it came to Sam Johnson.  He was Jim Colby's newest Equalizer--but a mystery to everyone else.  Until the past caught up to him when Officer Lisa Smith was called in to drag him back to the City of Angels to clear his name.

Hired by the Colby Agency, Lisa was by the book in every way, except when it came to Sam.  After all this time, she couldn't forget him--and she had tried.  With Sam framed for three gangland killings, Lisa found herself unraveling a man who trusted no one.  But Sam would have to let Lisa in if they were ever going to expose a brutal killer before it was too late for the next victim…and the Colbys.

Royal Lockdown by Rebecca York, Lights Out, Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN 9780373692613

Royal Lockdown is the first book in the Intrigue Lights Out Series.  It takes place during a night of panic in Boston.  At a glittering international reception at the top of the John Hancock Tower, Princess Ariana of Beau Pays and security expert Shane Peters are mesmerized by each other.  Then terrorists invade the reception, capturing the guests and threatening to kill them one by one, starting with Princess Ariana, if they don't turn over the vice president of the United States (who has hidden in a closet).

Shane and Ariana escape, only to find themselves on the run from a man who will stop at nothing to kill them both.  And at the same time, the passion smoldering between them reaches flash point.  But is it possible for these two very different people to forge a meaningful relationship?

Question of the Month

We all love a great movie. How many of you want to write a Captain Jack Sparrow book now? <<Just kidding.>>
Here's the real question: Do movie(s) or TV show(s) or books inspire you?
Tell us about your favorite, and how it inspired you in writing your next release.

Delores Fossen: In writing I'm rarely inspired by movies or TV shows--probably because I don't watch much TV, and I'm very picky about which movies I see. Where I have gotten inspiration is from news stories. For instance, in my current release Undercover Daddy, I read an article about a couple who found out they'd gotten their baby through an illegal adoption. The child was grown now, but it had such an emotional impact on the adopted person and the birth and adopted parents. Since I'm adopted, the story really stuck with me, and I decided to do an entire mini-series about illegal activity going on at a fictional birthing center in San Antonio, Texas. In addition to Undercover Daddy, the other books in the miniseries will be released later this year and in early 2008.

Paula Graves: I love haunted heroes who go to extremes to find elusive answers, even when they're not sure justice can ever be served. In my June release, Forbidden Temptation, the hero is a former FBI profiler who's become obsessed with finding a serial killer he believes may have killed his fiancee several years earlier. I pulled from several influences, from real life profiler John Douglas's non-fiction books to Fox Mulder's obsession with finding out what happened to his little sister on The X-Files.

Mallory Kane: Me! I want to write a Jack Sparrow book! I definitely get ideas from movies and TV. In fact, all the forensics I know I learned from CSI.  What usually happens to me is that I'll be watching an episode of a favorite TV show or movie and a particular plot point or a line spoken by one of the characters will click in my brain and start the wheels turning. I was watching a little known courtroom drama movie when I came up with the idea that turned into Juror No. 7 (my May 07 release from Harlequin Intrigue.) My thought was -- what if the guy threatening the juror was not a bad guy? What if he were a cop who was undercover with the bad guys? I loved the idea and luckily, it was one of those books that pours out so fast it's hard to type fast enough! (Those books are few and far between.)

Susan Kearney: Not only do TV shows and movies inspire me, so does making video trailers of my new book. Because film and tv are visual, they tend to make my writing more action packed. I imagine the scenes in my head, conflict and struggle, danger and passion in ways I can portray them on a video so I can show that book to my readers. My latest book video Kiss Me Deadly is for my June 26th release.

Ann Voss Peterson: Movies and TV shows can definitely inspire me, especially documentary-type cable shows dealing with forensics, prison life, police procedure, you name it. But my great love is books. When I find an author who inspires me, I buy every book released. My favorite author is Tess Gerritsen, whose writing I discovered back when she was penning Intrigues. Her books inspired me to write what I write today!

Dani Sinclair: I don’t think any writer can completely get away from using movies, television or even the books they read for inspiration when they write. Each genre has a broad cultural impact on us no matter how much we watch or read. My July Intrigue is called Midnight Prince. The hero works for the government as spy. James Bond comes to mind immediately - dashing, suave, a hero. How can I get around that? Why would I want to? The heroine finds herself working for a mystery man she only talks with on the telephone. Charlie's Angels anyone? While my book only taps into those concepts superficially, fans of either one may be interested enough to pick up Midnight Prince and see how I combined those iconic concepts to tell my story.

Joanna Wayne: Yes, I'm very much inspired and influenced by movies and TV show and sometimes by songs. The TV series Dallas had a lot to do with my deciding to write my latest series, The Four Brothers of Colts Run Cross . The series is about the Collingsworth family, a Texas ranching and oil family similar in wealth and scope to the Ewings of Dallas. But each of these brothers has strong ties to the land and the values they were handed down from the generations before them. Each brother is also very sexy and pure Texan. The first book in the series, 24 Karat Ammunition, will be available in July.

Rebecca York: One of the books that influenced my career the most was Darker than You Think, by Jack Williamson. It was about a man who didn't know he was a werewolf, and the others in his pack were trying to bring out his powers. I read the book when I was fifteen, and it made me want to be a werewolf. The story stayed with me. Many years later I read another werewolf book, The Wolf's Hour, by Robert McCammon. Those books made me want to write my own werewolf story, and I began thinking about a werewolf detective who used his wolf senses to solve crimes. That turned into Killing Moon, the first book in my Moon Series from Berkley.
