New Releases
Red Alert by Jessica Andersen, Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN: 0373229453

Dr. Meg Corning detested the way Erik Falco stormed the halls of Boston General Hospital as if he owned the place.  The fallen-cop-turned-ruthless-businessman was throwing his weight around in his bid to gain control of her breakthrough medical technology. But putting this sexy stranger in his place seemed impossible once he swooped to the rescue during a series of mysterious "accidents."

Before long, the explosive heat between them set off a chain reaction of pleasure and pain that nearly immobilized her. After Falco made a heart-stopping move to keep her safe, the data-obsessed doc knew it was time to analyze his true motives--and her own traitorous desires. Could they forge a bond of trust in time to outsmart a cold-blooded killer?

Covert Conception by Delores Fossen, Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN: 037322950X

Natalie Sinclair was stunned to discover she'd been drugged--and impregnated. Even more shocking was the identity of her baby's father: Rick Gravari, her sworn enemy. Now the only way to uncover the truth and reveal the mastermind behind their mysterious one night together was to join forces with the one man who was completely off-limits.  As the peril around them intensified, Natalie realized the dangerous men on their trail were nothing compared to the tender emotions provoked by her baby's father. But could she trust her once formidable foe's determination in his role as hard-nosed defender?
Baby Jane Doe by Julie Miller, The Precinct, Harlequin Intrigue, ISBN: 037322947X

Commissioner Shauna Cartwright knew she was stirring up a hornet's nest by reopening the Baby Jane Doe murder case. Now she faced the further wrath of KCPD by recruiting the much-maligned Eli Masterson to get the job done. After witnessing the handsome, hard-nosed detective in action during a botched bank robbery, she sensed he would face down her enemies. However, she was overpowered by her scandalous sexual attraction to the IA investigator who pushed the limits of her authority in his die-hard need to protect her from a sadistic killer. Surrendering to temptation broke every departmental rule imaginable... but as the case of Baby Jane Doe emerges from the shadows, would they risk their badges for love--and systematically stop a lethal traitor in his tracks?
Chain Reaction by Rebecca York, Harlequin Intrigue, 0373229461

After security expert Gage Darnell was rocked by a lab explosion, he regained consciousness a marked man. Wanted for murder, Gage went on the run for his life, with little time to uncover the conspiracy at Cranesbrook Lab and clear his name. But determination was no match for desire.

More than life, Gage needed Lily, the one woman whom he'd never stopped loving. But could Lily see past the overwhelming evidence against him--the man her parents warned her not to marry? Returning home meant sure capture, but Gage had to prove himself to Lily...or die trying.

Question of the Month
Here is the question for the authors for October:
Do you have a soundtrack for your books as you write them?
In your current or next book, what song or piece of music
represents your hero and heroine?

B.J. Daniels:
I love to listen to western music since I write suspense set in the west. Western songs are great. I used to get ideas for short stories from western songs when I wrote for Woman's World. The songs give me a feel for that lifestyle, you know, pickup trucks, faithful dogs and women who break men's hearts.

Delores Fossen:
The soundtrack or song will vary with each book because I like the music to fit the characters or the situation. For my October Intrigue, Covert Conception, the music I listened to most was Linkin Park because the hero, Rick, is a little rough around the edges, and the music reminded me of him.

Paula Graves:
Yes, I do.  I usually put together a compilation CD with songs that remind me either of my hero, my heroine, my villain, or the overall theme/mood of the story. For my next Intrigue, which hasn't yet been scheduled and still doesn't have a title, I'd say the song that evoked the mood best for me was Peter Gabriel's "Mercy Street," off his SO album.  For my current work-in-progress, I'm listening over and over to Natalie Merchant's "My Skin" from her OPHELIA album because it reminds me of the heroine.

Mallory Kane:
I'm currently infatuated with the new Rockstar (for SuperNova) Lukas Rossi, so my soundtrack includes the songs he sang each week that made him the only logical singer to front SuperNova, including
Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve), All These Things That I Have Done (Killers), Rebel Yell (Billy Idol), Livin' on a Prayer (Bon Jovi), I'll Try to Fix You (Coldplay), Creep (Radiohead), and my favorite song of all You Make My Head Spin (Lukas Rossi.) All of these songs in one way or another represent my hero, Geoffrey Archer, from the book I'm working on now, scheduled for 2008, Silent Guardian.

Susan Kearney:
When I wrote The Quest, my booktrailer music played in my head.  If you want to hear it, play the booktrailer at my website

Sylvie Kurtz:
I like music, but not when I'm writing.  When things are flowing, I wouldn't even hear it anyway.  The only time I'll listen to music while working is when I'm stuck.  Then I'll put something like Tingstad & Rumbel, which has no distracting lyrics and relaxes me enough to get past the internal critic.  In the book I just finished writing Spirit of a Hunter (Seekers, book 5, out in 2007), the heroine is an ex-deejay, so there's a lot of classic rock music.  Pull of the Moon (December 2006) has only the music of nature.

Julie Miller:
In my current release, Baby Jane Doe, the soundtrack from the Broadway musical, WICKED, was my story anchor and emotional inspiration. I especially found the duet, "For Good" to be a real motivator. When Glinda (the Good Witch) and Elphaba (the future Wicked Witch of the West) sing about how they've influenced each other's lives, despite their differences, and made each other better people, it struck an echoing chord in how Commissioner Shauna Cartwright and Det. Eli Masterson's lives converge in my book. Shauna and Eli are both outcasts from the department, by virtue of her position and his lone-wolf reputation. Their attraction is forbidden by departmental rules, and, on the surface, it seems they have nothing in common. But Shauna and Eli bring out each other's strengths. The sexual and emotional tension between them sizzles, unspoken, beneath the surface until outside dangers force them together. Then, it is because they ARE different, and that they complement each other's strengths that they are able to stay alive and capture a group of killers. By the end of the book, their strengths--and their love--have changed each other "For Good."

Amanda Stevens:
For The Dollmaker, my first psychological thriller from MIRA Books, the soundtrack could only be the Mezzanine album by Massive Attack, a dark, moody production with menacing beats and haunting vocals that create a bleak, yet not altogether depressing atmosphere.  For the female protagonist who is desperately searching for her missing child, "Teardrop".  For the male protagonist who has lived the last seven years in an alcoholic fog, "Inertia Creeps".  And for the The Dollmaker, who is trying to create a perfect little world, "Angel".

Rebecca York:
I think I'm an unusual writer.  I don't see my story in pictures.  I hear it in my head like a story.  In other words, I'm telling the story to myself.  I don't usually listen to music while I'm working.  If I do, it's classical music with no English words, so it doesn't interfere with my thinking as I'm writing.
