Baby
Kerry Connor
Harlequin Intrigue
ISBN: 9780373693962
|
Jake Armstrong had no
intention of getting involved with his very sexy--and very
pregnant--next-door neighbor...until the night she was attacked. His only
goal these days was recovering and getting back in the game, not playing
bodyguard to the most vulnerable of victims. Still, leaving her to fend
for herself was out of the question, especially once they learned it was
her baby someone was desperate to get their hands on. As they unearthed
shocking truths about her baby’s family history, Jake sensed something
growing between them, an attraction that became more intense as her due
date approached. He knew this tiny family had no place in his future,
but walking away seemed impossible--and practically broke his heart at
the thought... |

Handsome as sin and
wild as the Western wind
That's the Corbett brothers for you, and Shane's no exception. No way is
he settling down just because of some ridiculous marriage
pact--especially not with a cowgirl from small-town Whitehorse who seems
so young and naive. At least that's what this hardened lawman keeps
insisting.
But when Maddie Cavanaugh's kidnapped and drawn into a world of violent
greed and despair, Shane jumps into action. While he has no trouble
subduing her captors, resisting the force of Maddie's charm is harder
than he could've imagined, and it seems as if stubborn Shane may be the
first of the Corbett boys to surrender his bachelorhood. |

he wanted to see the truthful one. What was in that cave that was worth dying
for? Only one thing was for sure: whether Maxine liked it or not, Zach would do
everything in his power to keep them from being Devil's Hollow's next

Question of the Month
|
Intrigue has long
been known as a line that produces successful miniseries by individual
authors (The Colby Agency, 43 Light Street), continuity series by a
group of authors (Kenner County Crime Unit, Montana Confidential, etc.),
and ongoing theme series that get a special flash (such as Thriller or
Man of Mystery). Readers love them. What have been some of your favorite
miniseries or continuity series or theme series to work on? To read? Do
you have one you're currently working on?
Julie Miller: Intrigue’s history of
successful miniseries is one of the reasons I was so drawn to the line.
As a reader, I looked forward to each installment of Rebecca York’s
43 Light Street, for example. Once I sold to Intrigue, my own
miniseries--The Taylor Clan--was launched. I hadn’t planned it to
be a miniseries—I was just writing what I loved to read. Terrific
heroes, a close-knit family, emotionally complex characters. When I
wrote that first book, One Good Man, I wanted the hero,
Mitch Taylor, to be part of a big family tradition--in sharp contrast to
the heroine Casey Maynard’s isolation--to show just how much she needed
that hero in her life to keep her safe. Once I’d written my way through
all 7 of the Taylors, I spun off my current ongoing series, The
Precinct. I love creating a community of characters. Even with
stand-alone stories, I still get a depth of character and history
because my heroes and heroines all share a common city and work
environment with the cops of KCPD. Right now, I’m finishing up my 11th
Precinct book, Beauty and the Badge, which will be
out in December of this year. I’ve also worked on several Intrigue
continuity series with other authors. Probably my favorites were Big
Sky Bounty Hunters and this year’s Kenner County Crime Unit.
Rita Herron: This last year I worked on the Kenner County Crime Unit
series--my favorite part of this series was the focus on the crime lab.
I've also had two different series of my own. First, the Nighthawk
Island series, a medically based series set around a research park
off the coast of Savannah. I loved writing this series because it
allowed me to write darker, edgier story lines. My husband works in
pharmaceutical research so we had fun using his background to add to the
mystery. With the Harlequin anniversary, they want to emphasize
the basic family hooks so I'm writing another series called Guardian
Angel Investigations. These stories are emotional, mystery suspense
stories, all of which pertain to missing children. How can missing
children not steal your heart? And another favorite series I've worked
on is the Silver Star of Texas mini-series -- these books revolve
around sexy Texas Rangers, and have been a fun and challenging
experience because I've had the pleasure of working with two of my
favorite Intrigue authors, Delores Fossen and Rickey Mallory. We chat on
line and meet at conferences to plan the three connected books!
B.J. Daniels: Series are always fun. I even did one about
Bigfoot. But my favorite is my current Whitehorse, Montana
series. It started off with only six books and has grown to 18 books so
far. I love going back to Whitehorse, a small town in Montana that is
located in the same part of Montana where I live. I weave in the area's
history and have fun with my fictional reoccurring families. I love the
many mysteries there continue to turn up in Whitehorse. :) This month,
the Corbett brothers arrive in Whitehorse for the first of five books
(Shotgun Bride), with the others following May, June, Sept. and Oct. But
that is only the beginning. Get ready for the Winchesters of
Whitehorse!
Patricia Rosemoor: My April book, Rescuing the Virgin,
is the final installment in the The McKenna Legacy, a series I
actually started in 1996. I created a family tree of 9 siblings/cousins
and thought I would do a book for each. I was told simply to write 3 of
them by my then editor, and then to write something else. But publishing
my editor eventually realized my McKenna books were very popular and so
asked me to write another. In the meantime I had other projects, other
series. But readers wanted more McKennas. I continually got reader mail
asking me when this or that cousin would have a story. So now that I've
finally written about all nine, my editor asked me to continue with a
new branch of McKennas. So, The McKenna Legacy, Family Secrets,
will begin in August as part of the Intrigue 25th Anniversary
celebration. I don't mind. I love the McKennas with their various
psychic gifts. I'm a McKenna -- or my maternal grandmother was -- so
there's something special for me about this series, as well.
Paula Graves: The series that got me hooked on Intrigues was
Gayle Wilson's Phoenix Brotherhood series. After reading the
first couple of books, I was hooked. This was the kind of story I wanted
to read--and write. It took several years and a few false starts, but I
finally got my wish in 2005 when I sold my first book, Forbidden
Territory, to Harlequin Intrigue.
Mallory Kane: I love all the mini-series! I've worked on two of
the Confidential series -- New Orleans and Miami. They're always
fun. And I've had my own mini-series called Ultimate Agents, that
lasted for six books. In 2009, I have a three-book mini-series coming
out in September, October and November of 2009, called Black Hills
Brotherhood. I'm really excited about them. They're suspense
thrillers that feature three men bound by a vow they made as children.
They're on a mission, with the fate of the free world at stake. I can't
wait to see them on the shelves.
Sylvie Kurtz: I've enjoyed the Man of Mystery flashed
book. Discovering what's behind the mask the hero wears adds something
extra to the story. Honor of a Hunter was the last of my
Seekers series. But a few ideas are brewing, and who knows,
Harper and Bryn might get their own stories one day. What I like about
series is the chance to revisit old characters and see what's happened
to them after they got their happy ending.
Joanna Wayne: Cowboy Commando, March 09--I love series and
have participated in so many I'm not sure I can remember them all. There
is no way I could pick a favorite, but some I particularly loved were
Texas Confidential, New Orleans Confidential, Moriah's Landing and
Mists of Fernhaven. It would be equally as difficult to say which of
my own series I liked best, but some of my favorite were Family Ties,
Four Brothers of Colts Run Cross and my current series, Special
Ops, Texas. One of the reasons I'm so enjoying writing the Special
Ops series is that I'm in total awe of the bravery and sacrifices of our
American servicemen. My heroes in all the Special Ops series are
not only former Special Ops guys but cowboys at heart. It doesn't get
any better than that. Cowboy Commando, the first book in
the series came out in March. The next, Cowboy to the Core
comes out in August. And for those of you who've asked, yes, there
will be one more Colts Run Cross book when Jaime gets her man!
